What to take back from the 2016 Inventory Assembly

What to Take Back Inventory Assembly Kauai District #6 January 30-31, 2016

Thank you all for participating in the Inventory Assembly.

Here is a summary of what we worked on and shared.

If anyone in your group or district would like more detailed information, they can find it on the Inventory Assembly page of our website. www.area17aa.org

1. We completed the Area Inventory. The purpose of the inventory process was to take stock in how we are doing. We recognized the areas that are going well. We also identify issues of concern that seemed to center around communication and unity. Responses pointed to four areas that need attention:

• Helping GSRs

• Improving familiarity with service literature

• Coordinating and improving Area Standing Committee work

• Improving the Inform the Delegate Assembly process

Our goal this weekend was more about illuminating issues than resolving them. Groups did share several suggestions that are useful when helping GSRs, and improving familiarity with service literature. How to better coordinate Area Standing Committee work, and improve the Inform the Delegate Assembly process is not so clear at this time. Now we go back to our groups and districts, and ask how we can address these concerns. More will be revealed.

2. Share the Summary of Fall General Service Board Weekend.

+ AA Grapevine is asking for organization wide support (in the form of Grapevine Subscriptions). The hope is to slow (or perhaps reverse) the trend of declining subscriptions.

+Literature update: 220 stories were submitted for three literature projects. Revise ”A.A. for the Woman” and “A.A. for the Gay/Lesbian Alcoholic” and development of literature for A.A.s with mental health issues. The committee also agreed to forward to the 2016 Conference committee a proposal for the development of a plain language version of Alcoholics Anonymous

+ A new Public Service Announcement “Doors” has been picked up by CNN Airport Network and is playing in at least nine major airports.

+Trustees’ Planning Session: The feasibility study projects that if contributions continue to stay flat, and AA World Service and AA Grapevine sales decline, we may see significant budget deficits within the next few years. The treasurer is refining projections, and there is a desire to hold session during the conference week to discuss ways to reduce expenses, increase revenues, and/or make improvements to our structure in order to response proactively to the situation.

3. Share the Delegate Report:

+50.77% of groups in Area 17 contributed to GSO during 2015. Check with your DCM for your group’s contribution history.

+ Share the flyer: Your Seventh Tradition Contributions: Carrying Our Message Beyond Your Home Group

+ Male Correspondence volunteers are needed for Corrections Correspondence Service opportunity. More info is found at www. aa.org

4. Share The AA General Service Conference Inventory Compendium 2013-1016 5. Many of the topics presented may also be General Service Conference Agenda items. PRAASA provides us with helpful background information in preparation for our Inform the Delegate Assembly. PRAASA presentations are recorded. If you cannot attend, ask your DCM if your district purchased a set of the presentations. Borrow and listen!

6. Our Pacific Regional Forum will be held at the Hilton Waikoloa Village on the Kohala Coast, on the island of Hawaii from September 30 -October 2, 2016. The General Service Office plans the conference as a way to bring GSO to us. There is no registration fee and all AA members are welcome to attend. This is an incredible opportunity to meet our trusted servants from the GSO, Trustees and Past Trustees, Staff Members, support staff, as well as folks attending from other areas. See the Alternate Delegates report for more details. What to take Back from the Orientation Assembly

The goal of the Orientation Assembly was to provide GSRs, DCMs, committee chairs, intergroup chairs, and officers with information to help us understand our service commitments. Using service material and individual experiences, we were given an overview of how the up side down triangle service structure is designed to serve A.A.

Joel C. The Pacific Region Trustee reviewed the structure and composition of the General Service Board. General Service helps us carry the message to the still suffering alcoholic:
The International Convention will be held in Atlanta GA, July 2-5, 2015.
The aa.org website has been redesigned. It is now easier to search for/find meetings.
The Trustee System is used to get work done here in United States and Canada, and to assist A.A. overseas.

There were two panel presentations. The first gave background information on the History of the General Service Conference, and the General Service Board. The second panel talked about our Twelve Concepts for World Service.

General Service Representatives, District Committee Members, Standing Committee Chairs, Intergroup Chairs, and Officers met in small groups to discuss our responsibilities and ask questions.

GSRs were given their standing committee assignments, and were asked to act as liaisons between those in service on their island/district and the area standing committee chairs.
Standing Committee Chairs were confirmed, and met with their assigned GSR liaisons.

Reports were given by Officers, DCMs, Intergroup Representatives, and Standing Committees round tables. For details regarding Intergroup activities on the different islands, go to area17aa.org to find links to intergroup websites, and to the meeting minutes for this assembly.

Our Website Chair gave a presentation on area17aa.org website.

“Ask it Basket” questions were answered, and allowed us to practice what happens at the Pacific Region Alcoholics Anonymous Service Assembly (PRAASA): a member is chosen to share on a topic, and the assembly is given time to go to the microphone to share their experience.

PRAASA will be held the March 6-8, 2015 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Details are found at 2015.praasa.org

Regarding our own service work, we were encouraged to ask for help when we need it, and to be available to help others, if asked. And, while we strive to work together for A.A. and the still suffering alcoholic, it doesn’t mean we have to all be the same, think the same or do the same things. We were reminded that harmony happens not when we all sing the same note, but when everybody is singing a different note.

Lastly, it is my experience that assemblies have a spiritual component to them as well as a business component. We each leave the assembly with our own ideas of what was important. The service manual describes this as “what you saw, heard and felt.” Unless you tell us, we won’t know what your higher power/good orderly direction seemed to point out to you. I hope you look for opportunities to pass that on as well.

Thank you for allowing me to be of service,
Coleen A.
Area 17 Chair, Panel 65
