You may have noticed that our URL looks a bit different today. If not, look again…
Our new domain name is www.area17aa.org, changed from www.hawaii-aa.org. You may also have noticed that the old domain name simply redirects you to the new domain.
Still you’ll probably want to update any bookmarks pointing to the old site.
So why the change?
As you may recall that it was decided to change web hosts to a new provider who would allow us to run more efficient mailing lists. The limitations of our old host prevented us from making the best use of email as a tool to keep our fellowship informed of Area business. Our new host gives us what we need and actually costs less per year!
However in the course of making the change, we discovered that we couldn’t make the move without a new domain name. Our new name is also a bit more descriptive of our purpose and is in line with GSO guidelines. I think I counted about 25 other Area sites that use the same areaXXaa.org format.
If you didn’t notice the change, don’t worry, that was sort of the point. All the major changes took place behind the scenes and we even managed to have no down time!
