June Committee Meeting Registration!

With the next Committee Meeting, to be held June 20, 2009 at St. Mark's Episcopal Church on Oahu, hosted by District 10 – Waikiki, we are trying a few new things to make it easier for everyone to register.

1. Online Registration

The first innovation is an online form. If you are a member who attends committee meetings, area officers, DCMS, and standing committee chairs, you can simply fill out the form by clicking the link above. An email will be generated with your information and sent to Patrick A., the District 10 DCM as well as a confirmation email to yourself. You must enter a valid email addresss to fill out the form. It does not have to be your @area17aa.org address, but, of course, we do encourage you to use that address. Do not submit the form multiple times as that will generate multiple emails. Just check your email to be sure it was sent. If you use an email system that filters for spam, you may have to check your spam inbox, don’t assume that just because you don’t see the confirmation in your regular inbox it wasn’t sent. :-)

Just note, you will have to enter the security code at the bottom of the form which you can see as a picture just to the above the submit button. These “captchas” are used to insure that these forms aren’t filled out automatically by a computer program for malicious purposes.

2. PDF Forms

In addition we now have the capability to turn PDFS into forms that can be filled out, saved, and emailed. The flier for the June Committee Meeting is on the same page as the online form, or simply click on the links in this message.

You will need to save the PDF once you’ve filled it out, but having done that, you can send it along to Patrick A., DCM 10.

You only need to fill out one or the other. If you’ve used the online registration there is no need to send the PDF and vice versa. The PDF does have driving instructions however, so it’s worth downloading if you are not familiar with the location.

Aloha!

Website changes…if something looks funny…

Aloha everyone!

Our website consists of two major components. There’s the underlying blog (web log) software that provides the framework for what we see. It manages the pages and articles and can really be though of as the engine that keeps this all going. The other major portion of the site is the “theme” that is responsible for the look and feel of the site.

Over the weekend the there was a maintenance release of the underlying blog software. Unfortunately that upgrade “broke” the theme of the site. It wasn’t a major problem as I was able to find a fix online that updated the theme to work with the new software in short order.

Generally changing either the software or theme is pretty simple, changing both is somewhat more complex.

You may have noticed some odd things in the past 24 hours. At times the site has been down for a few minutes. At other times the look of the site may have been completely different. And, more subtly, perhaps things just looked slightly different. If so, it wasn’t you, it was us. :-)

The site should be up and running (actually it was never down for more than 10 minutes) pretty well at the moment. If you you suspect something is broken, please let me know as soon as possible so I can take a look. Don’t forget, you can email at: webmaster@area17aa.org.

There will be more changes to the site in the future, hopefully for the better. :-)

Aloha!

Panel 59 Email Status Update!

With the beginning of Panel 59 we are, as you might expect, going through a lot of changes – as happens every two years. This is compounded by the fact that we have switched our email system from the old domain, hawaii-aa.org, to our new one, area17aa.org.

Most affected are those of use who will be using the new email addresses in our service positions: Area Officers, DCMS, and Standing Committee Chairs. Currently only these servants have @area17aa.org email addresses. GSRS and others need not worry about using the system other than to make sure they send email to the correct, new addresses (@area17aa.org) when sending email.

While we have been able to set up our Area Officers and a few others on the new system, for the most part setup and training will occur at the Orientation Assembly. While I’d be happy to get you started before that time if you contact me, I will be presenting material at the assembly and be available for hands on help if you require it.

I look forward to working with everyone at the assembly and until then…Aloha!
